Booker Taliaferro Washington, a teacher, and Negro leader died on 14 November
1915 aged 59 following congestive heart failure. Washington was born in 1856 in Hale’s
Ford Virginia a place he treasured. When he realized the end was near after ailing for several
months, Washington made his last long trip to the South. He would say “I was born in the
South, have lived all my life in the South, and expect to die and be buried in the South.”
