Question 1: Cultural Implications of Music
Music generally is an art form which since the Post-World War II era pushed off its limits
from just being an entertainment source but also having a cultural effect to human lives courtesy
of its rhythmical flow and the associated concepts of articulation and tempo. Jazz as a music
genre originated in the African-American communities found in a town namely, New Orleans of
the United States. It was mainly influenced by both the harmonic structure of the Europeans and
African rhythm. The music genre is often characterized by the degree of improvisation, use of
original timbres, syncopated rhythm and pitch deviations developed from blues and partially
ragtime. New Orleans Jazz having begun in the early 1910s jazz grew and spread around the
world drawing on regional, local and regional musical cultures. Since its onset jazz has been
shifting itself one style to another categorized by type of sounds used and flow of the melodic
lines. For instance, the 1950s included the emergence of Jazz music styles like free jazz, hard
bop, and cool jazz.
