Application of Correlation
Various scenarios in professional, career specialization as well as in real life apply
correlation. For example, in professional life, one would establish the existence of an association
between a person weight and age.
Research Question
Is there a significant association between the weight and the age of a person?
Appropriateness of Correlation
Notably, in this case, the correlation would play a significant role in examining the association
between age and weight of an individual, essential in making implication to social change related
to public health.
Scale of Measurement
The variables under correlational investigation include the age of the respondents and
their corresponding body weight. Notably, both variables are measured as ratio scales. This
satisfies one of the correlational assumptions, which requires that the variables under
correlational analysis must assume either interval or ratio scale of measurement.
Expected Results
In my opinion, the expected results from the correlation analysis should indicate a strong
positive association between the age of an individual and their weight, following a high value of
Pearson’s r of more than 0.7. High R-value suggests a strong association between two variables
under correlational examination.
