Correlations See the Resources area for links to resources that you will use for this assignment: 1. You will complete this assignment using the Data Analysis and Application (DAA) Template. 2. Read the SPSS Data Analysis Report Guidelines for a more complete understanding of the DAA Template and how to format and organize your assignment. 3. Refer to IBM SPSS Step-By-Step Guide: Correlations for additional information on using SPSS for this assignment. 4. If necessary, review the Copy/Export Output Instructions to refresh your memory on how to perform these tasks. As with your previous two assignments, your submission should be in narrative format with supporting statistical output (table and graphs) integrated into the narrative in the appropriate places (not all at the end of the document). You will analyze the following variables in the grades.sav data set: • • • • gender gpa total final Step 1: Write Section 1 of the DAA. • • • • Provide the context of the grades.sav data set. Include a definition of the specified variables and corresponding scales of measurement. Indicate the type of correlation for each X, Y pair (Pearson's r, Spearman's r, pointbiserial r, et cetera). Specify the sample size of the data set. Step 2: Write Section 2 of the DAA. • • • • • Test the assumptions of correlation for gpa and final. Paste the SPSS histogram output for each variable and discuss your visual interpretations. Paste SPSS descriptives output showing skewness and kurtosis values and interpret them. Paste SPSS scatter plot output with "gpa" set to the horizontal axis and "final" set to the vertical axis. Conduct a visual inspection of the scatter plot to analyze other assumptions of correlation. Summarize whether or not the assumptions of correlation are met. Step 3: Write Section 3 of the DAA. SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT • • • 2 Specify a research question related to gpa and final. Articulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis. Specify your alpha level. Step 4: Write Section 4 of the DAA. • o o o Paste the SPSS output of the intercorrelation matrix for all specified variables. First, report the lowest magnitude correlation in the intercorrelation matrix, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Specify whether or not to reject the null hypothesis for this correlation. Second, report the highest magnitude correlation in the intercorrelation matrix, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Specify whether or not to reject the null hypothesis for this correlation. Third, report the correlation between gpa and final, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Analyze the correlation in terms of the null hypothesis. Step 5: Write Section 5 of the DAA. • • Discuss the implications of this correlation as it relates to the research question. Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of correlational analysis. Submit your DAA Template as an attached Word document in the assignment area. Resources • • • • • • Correlations Scoring Guide. DAA Template [DOCX]. APA Style and Format. SPSS Data Analysis Report Guidelines. Copy/Export Output Instructions. IBM SPSS Step-by-Step Guide: Correlations [DOC].
Application of Correlation For this discussion: • • • • Identify a research question from your professional life or career specialization that can be addressed by a correlation. Indicate why a correlation would be the appropriate analysis for this research question. Describe the variables and their scale of measurement. Discuss the expected outcome—positive, negative, no relationship. Response Guidelines Provide a substantive contribution that advances the discussion in a meaningful way by identifying strengths of the posting, challenging assumptions, and asking clarifying questions. Your response is expected to reference the assigned readings, as well as other theoretical, empirical, or professional literature to support your views and writings. Reference your sources using standard APA guidelines. Review the Participation Guidelines section of the Discussion Participation Scoring Guide to gain an understanding of what is required in a substantive response. • PSY learners, you are required to respond to at least two of your peers' posts. • Learners from all other programs, you are required to respond to at least one of your peers' posts. Learning Components This activity will help you achieve the following learning components: • • Generate a conclusion including strengths and limitations of correlation. Interpret the correlation output.

Application of Correlation
Various scenarios in professional, career specialization as well as in real life apply
correlation. For example, in professional life, one would establish the existence of an association
between a person weight and age.
Research Question
Is there a significant association between the weight and the age of a person?
Appropriateness of Correlation
Notably, in this case, the correlation would play a significant role in examining the association
between age and weight of an individual, essential in making implication to social change related
to public health.
Scale of Measurement
The variables under correlational investigation include the age of the respondents and
their corresponding body weight. Notably, both variables are measured as ratio scales. This
satisfies one of the correlational assumptions, which requires that the variables under
correlational analysis must assume either interval or ratio scale of measurement.
Expected Results
In my opinion, the expected results from the correlation analysis should indicate a strong
positive association between the age of an individual and their weight, following a high value of
Pearson’s r of more than 0.7. High R-value suggests a strong association between two variables
under correlational examination.

Data Analysis and Application
Step 1: Section 1
The data under investigation explores student performance in school in different quizzes
and final exam determining whether a learner pass or fails in the year in school. The grades data
contains several variables that entail the gender, ethnicity, year in school, and the learners score
in GPA scores. In this case, the information contained in the dataset provides insights on how a
student's grades relate based on their GPA score and influence of the quizzes on the student’s
