Player A hit twice the difference of the number of home runs that player b hit and 6.  altogether they hit 18 homes runs.  How many runs did each player hit.

here the equations are,

a=2(b-6)                         and

a+b=18

therefore,

2(b-6)+b=18

2b-12+b=18

3b=30

b=10

a=18-10=8


a=8   and  b=10
