Introduction
Advancement of technology has brought about both positive and negative impact. One of
the major impacts has to do with cyberstalking and cyberbullying. This is whereby the user is
constantly abused online. Cyberbullying refers to the act of bullying a person through the use of
electronic communication. This can either be by threatening a person or even intimidating them.
On the hand, cyberstalking refers to using electronic means to harass or stalk another person. it
may include things like slander and defamation among others. Both cyberbullying and
cyberstalking are criminal offenses. At times they have such a great impact on the victim. The case
of Francesca Rossi is a good example. Francesca was stalked by an ex-boyfriend who terrorized
both her and her family and ruined her reputation. She stated that she was afraid he would kill him
(Long, 2018). The states as well as the policymakers have been proactive when it comes to fighting
the issue of cyberstalking and cyberbullying. The 50 states have in place legislation that they use
to deal incidences of cyberstalking and cyberbullying. Schools and other educational agencies also
have policies, local laws and legislation used to manage the two crimes.
