Question Description

Using my family member interview, write a 2 to 3-page response paper (approximately 500 to 750 words) on how my family member’s work experiences relate to the themes of social class or economic inequality. Your paper should make a clear argument and should be persuasive in style, rather than simply report your my member’s experiences. Your paper must also cite material from the reading assignments for evidence and facts to support your argument.

You can choose from the following suggestions for a central argument, or come up with one on your own (you may consult Prof. Lee with your ideas):

  1. “Social class matters”
Use family member’s economic background, education, and work experiences to explore how much social class status and mobility matters. For instance, has your family member’s social class status affected how he/she has pursued education and work opportunities? How has social class status shaped your family member’s cultural, economic, and/or political values and opinions? Relate your family member’s experiences to course readings and materials on social class.
  1. “Economic inequality is a problem”
Use your family member’s social class status and work experiences to explore the issues surrounding economic inequality. For instance, has the growth of economic inequality in the United States affected your family member and his/her community? In what ways is your family member concerned about economic inequality? Relate your family member’s experiences to course readings and materials on economic inequality.

Your response paper needs to be typed and double-spaced with a 12-point font.
