This multimedia presentation will satisfy CO: 3 Apply international legal norms within the context of international relations
For this project you will choose an international human rights NGO and a human rights issue. You will then create a video in which you simulate testifying in front of the UN Human Rights Commission. As we have discussed actors such as NGOs, epistemic communities, and government representatives must work to apply legal norms within the context of current world politics. The videos give you a good example of this. If you would like to have someone else assist you by playing the role of the UN member or members and interrupting you, that is fine. However, that is certainly not required.
Your video presentation should be five minutes in length, demonstrate an understanding of the human rights issue, an awareness of the difficulty of applying international norms to the case, and an ability to communicate it effectively. Please click on the Media Gallery link on the left for access to Kaltura which will allow you to upload videos into the classroom. You can take the video with the webcam function in Kaltura or using your cell phone.
If you wish to address something other than human rights, you may make a proposal to the professor. However, you will need to already have in mind the issue and the appropriate commission or committee. Your professor will not provide this information for you.

July 28, 2019 Dear members of the Subcommittee, friends of the Human Rights Movement,
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, There are many challenges related to defending human
rights in the modern world.
As an institution of the human rights programme, search, reflection and advice are needed to
help us think about the universal protection of human rights in the world. At the beginning of the
new session, I would like to share with you some thoughts on the new challenges of promoting
and protecting human rights, because this is your position: you are a subcommittee for the
promotion and protection of human rights.
l. Relief for the Victims of Gross Violations of Human Rights: The Challenge of Protection
Whatever we say tomorrow, today we must protect people who have been subjected to torture,
arbitrary or collective executions, involuntary disappearances or violence against women. The
challenge of protecting human rights is immediate and urgent.
The Human Rights Commission has a number of special rapporteurs, representatives and other
experts, called special procedures, who review these phenomena and report annually to the

Commission. The Subcommittee is responsible for addressing human rights violations. It is
exploring every year. Have you reviewed the results of the special procedures to suggest what
the Human Rights Commission can do to protect the rights of raped persons?
II. The Challenge of Prevention
The best form of protection is to prevent serious violations of human rights. A few years ago, we
submitted a report on prevention challenges to the committee. We encourage the Committee to
consider prevention strategies at the national and regional levels. At the international level, what
is your contribution to the prevention challenge?
III. The Challenge of Poverty
Regardless of the shadow of human skin, human rights apply to all God's children, poverty and
wealth. Today, millions of people suffer from poverty, humiliation and waste due to widespread
poverty. There are many reasons in China. In many cases, management quality is the main
reason. The performance of the international economic system is another root cause. In some
cases, differences in ethnic systems, beliefs, and values may be a factor.
The human rights-based approach is based on the simple belief that if society seeks to establish a
democratic government under the rule of law and society and is committed to reducing poverty
according to the commandment's commandments, people will have better opportunities to stay in
