After the slave trade and slavery was abolished, there still existed racial discrimination
and segregation in the south of the United States of America. The whites considered themselves
superior and saw the black race as inferior. As a result, there were signs everywhere that
separated blacks from the whites including restaurants and public bus stations. These actions
angered some black people who felt that their basic human rights were being interfered with.
The state of Virginia had passed laws that allowed segregation in interstate buses which
