“Best Practices” In Strategic Planning
Even though there are no fixed practices that contribute to the success of an organization,
there are some common approaches applied by many companies to have a successful strategic
planning process. In most cases, there are four best practices employed in the strategic planning
process. The practices involve exploring strategy at distinct time horizons, continually
reinventing and stimulating the strategic dialogue, engaging the entire organization, and
investing in monitoring and execution.
Exploring Strategy at Different Time Periods
It is necessary to think about a particular strategy at a given time horizon. Every plan
needs different approaches, different people, and has different goals. The downfall in strategic
planning arises when an organization raises issues regarding short, medium, and long term at the
same time thus causing inflexibility in achieving the goals set (McDONALD, 2016). Leading
companies usually address various strategic issues in three-time horizons. These time horizons
