Be constructive and professional in your responses. student 1 Hello Class, The appropriate methods of communication in business that my colleagues and I use are Outlook and Microsoft. Texting and social media forms of communication are not allowed whatsoever. I refrain from texting any employees unless its an emergency. I tend to email all business questions and concerns. Skype we typically never use unless we have to. I have a skype conference call for work on Friday due to the corona virus we are using it to communicate with all our sales rep. The advantages for me using outlook vs Instagram messaging is that one it is professional, two we aren't mixing our social lives, three if I ever I need to refer back I know that I can always rely on outlook to store my data. Outlook is a reliable source. I find that Instagram or other social networks can blur lines between management and employees. I encourage my staff to have relationships outside of work but I do believe social media can cause damage. I have only management level and up on maybe one or two social media other than that I tend to keep it very private. Student 2 My current organization steadily utilizes both Microsoft Outlook and Skype of methods of communication between colleagues, while social media applications such as Twitter and Instagram are prohibited and blocked on our work computers. We also must adhere to a strict code of ethics which plainly states that we are not allowed to publicly share confidential information, negative, or inappropriate opinions about our organization on our personal social media accounts. Our organization does has it's own business profiles on Facebook and Twitter, both share public information about our history and our services. Microsoft Outlook has always been the most preferred method of communication at my job; allowing all of us to e-mail, share documents, arrange meetings, and track our attendance ledgers. However, due to the recent COVID-19 crisis the world is collectively dealing with, my colleagues and I have begun to rely heavily on Skype for both instant messaging and teleconferencing while we all work from home. Some of us are discovering that sharing our screens via Skype in real time to review documents together, versus sending each other documents via Outlook, saves us time by reducing the annoying back and forth that sometimes happens when only dealing with e-mail. It also minimizes the odds of miscommunication. With e-mail sometimes things can get lost in translation, such as expectations or the level of urgency. Conversely, instant messaging can be a distraction if overused or used for trivial matters.
