Question Description

As technologies and the bases of the U.S. economy change, do you think that men and women will become more or less equal economically? And, how could these shifting positions in the economy affect their relative social status? Support your answer by providing an example of how changes in women's social and economic status could affect one another in the near future. [Hint: Remember from week 4 that status inequality is different from economic inequality. Address both kinds of gender inequities, and be clear about which one you are referring to throughout your writing. Also: Some of the theories we have reviewed argue that cultural gender roles create inequality in the economy, while others say that the role of women in the economy is the cause of their subordinate social status. Feel free to address any of these theories in your discussion.]
