Introduction

The open systems interconnection model is a model that describes the functional areas in
the communication system. It was developed to ensure that the IT industry is governed by
international standards. With the recent growth in technology, organisations should ensure that
personnel in the IT department understand all the concepts in communication. The goal of the
model is to offer interoperability in communication systems based on the respective protocols. OSI
divides the communication system into abstraction layers. According to research, the first version
of the model comprised of seven layers (He et al, 2018). All the layers are interrelated, and each
of them depends on the other. This paper focuses on analyzing layer two which is also known as
