Introduction
Jack D. Flam writes about Henri Matisse and his artworks from the time he developed an
interest in art. Matisse, who is famously known for his expressive and decorative artworks
through his mastery of color, became the leader of Fauvism, an art movement that allowed artists
to work with bright, expressive colors. The Chapel of the Rosary in Vence is a grand project by
Matisse which portrays how he used beautiful and expressive colors to evoke deep emotions.
Analysis of the Text
The text on Matisse is a bibliography by Flam who collected important interview and
broadcast transcriptions as well as letters that the artist wrote during his career. The bibliography
provides insight concerning the different stages that Matisse went through in the quest of
identifying his area of expertise in painting. The subject matter in the bibliography illustrates
