Hi there! Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
(This is an opinion piece)
I personally tend to support affirmative action and other programs that attempt to provide useful services for members of disadvantaged groups. Although the Declaration of Independence of the United States states that all men are created equal, unfortunately that has not been observed in practice throughout history. Many groups have been discriminated because of race, cultural background, gender, sexual preferences, and, even though affirmative action does not solve the problem, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
I am a voice in favor of equality. I want every citizen to have the same opportunities, the ability to have the same dreams, and an equal chance to reach them. Children that grew up in poor neighborhoods and had to attend under-staffed, under-supplied schools cannot possibly be in the same level field as someone in a rich neighborhood who had access to private schools, tutors, and easy access to the Internet. I hope that one day every kid will have access to good education, to the Internet, to knowledge. Unfortunately, determination is not enough; without access to these resources, even the brightest kid won't be able to succeed. This is the main reason I support affirmative action, to level the opportunities and to attempt to correct the unfavorable conditions that some groups had to endure.
Please let me know if you need any clarification. Always glad to help!
