I want to understand the specifics of what makes a data set more desirable than a database, so I know which one to use for building software.

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Reasons for you to choose Database over Data set

Databases may have back-end storage on temporary file-systems or removable media. Such transient databases are a different concept to a temporary table. Transient databases are lost when the storage system is removed or reset (for example, tmpfs on reboot).

Database also manages multi-user access to the database

- Consistent system data information, eg track VPN & PKI certificates, system tones, system categories.

-Additional Qt  and Extended applications, Custom application  compared to Data sets.

Desirable features of Data set over Database

Uses access methods include the Virtual Sequential Access Method and the Indexed Sequential Access Method

Its features corresponds to the concept of a file in other operating systems such as Linux and Windows 2000. because it might be contained in the Database then its important to understand the compatibility

A data set generally contains a collection of business data  which include salaries, sales figures etc, it makes i

Its structure is manageable  compared to Database, it contains columns and rows which does not need alot of knowledge to the user to use.

Its not always under the control of  management system because  its just a data controlled by file which contains it.

Database hold data sets , its important to consider both in  building software.
