Planet of slums is astounding, petrifying and authentic book in exposing poverty of slumdwellers across the global cities (Davis, 2006). This book explains the future of impoverished
and an unstable urban city by providing a thematic rundown to the rise of slums and poverty
among the cities of global south. Planet of slums book also discusses in details the facets that
contributes to escalated growth of the global urban slums with close examination of modern and
historical processes, and state related legacies. Some of the modern and historical processes that
have led to rise of slums in the global cities include pirate urbanism, colonialism and slumremoval activities (Davis, 2006). Besides, planet of slums states the rise of slums has a close
relation with economic adjustment policies, capitalism, globalization and, colonial policies,
which are propagated, by egocentric behavior of world developed cities (Davis, 2006).
Therefore, the ever-increasing global slum will explode and inflict havoc across the global cities
thereby increasing the effects of slum challenges across the global cities.
The main cause of occurrence of global cities slum is excess surplus of labor. This excess
surplus of labor has resulted from massive rural-urban migration. However, when this mammoth
migrates reached these global cities, then they usually find themselves unable to pay for better
housing facilities due to underemployment or unemployment therefore, they are force to stay in
