The number pending corporate fraud case stood at 545 at the beginning of 2008 (t=0) and was 726 at the begin of 2012. the growth was app. linear

A. Derive an equation of the line passing through points A (0,545) and B (4,726) (let t be the independent variable and y be dependent variable

b. use the equation found in part a to estimate the number of pending corporate fraud cases at the beginning of 2015 (round to nearest whole number)

If the relationship is linear to . we need to ge the formula in the form

y =mt +c whet m is the slope and c is the y intercept

to determine slope m = change in y /change in t

= 726-545/4-0= 181//4=45.25

y =45.25t +c

since we know the y intercept (when t =0) 

c = 545

equation is thus

y=45.25t +545


To ge t we subtract 2015-2008 = 7 years

y =45.25(7) +545 

y= 316.75 +545

y = 861.75

y- 862
