Leaders in any IT environment play a pivotal role in the operations of the IT department.
The success of the operations of an IT department is highly dependent on the efficiency of the IT
leaders, their motivation, their interpersonal skills and also their level of understanding of the
organization’s systems and processes. Among the tasks an IT manager performs includes
formulation of business recovery and disaster recovery plans, conducting regular audits, staff
training, network and security checks among other roles. In some entities where there is no
dedicated risk department the IT management is also tasked with the role of risk management
and risk assessment of the IT environment.
Taking for instance the formulation of disaster recovery plans by IT managers; it’s one of
the key tasks carried out in the IT space. In the event of an eventuality such as flooding or fire
leading to complete or partial loss of information resources, the possibility of the organization
getting back to its feet and resuming normal operations in the shortest time possible is highly
dependent on the disaster recovery plans which were in place.
