Question 1
Ecommerce business involves buying and selling of goods using the internet and also
exchange of money to execute the transactions. Ecommerce business involves all aspects of
operating an online business (Khosrowpour, 2013). Traditional brick or mortal business involves
businesses that have physical presence. They are built on physical materials such as brick and
they can be seen and touched. These businesses deal with customers face to face.
Advantages of starting an ecommerce business compared to mortal and brick business
Advantages of starting an e-commerce business include low startup cost as compared to
brick and mortal businesses. The expenses to start an ecommerce business are lower since one
does not require paying staffs working in the business, security personnel, store signs or pay for a
store design as it is in brick and mortal stores (WINN, 2002).
Ecommerce business has more potential income compared to mortal or brick businesses.
This is because ecommerce businesses are always open any time of the day. Unlike physical
stores where they open for some hours and close at other hours, ecommerce is always open 24-7
and a customer can place an order any time of the day or night (Rajamma, 2007).
Ecommerce business helps to sell internationally. This is because the seller can easily
discover customers from all over the world easily despite where they are located.

The

ecommerce seller only has to choose a means of shipping his/ her products that is affordable and
this allows pricing products and shipping them competitively (Khosrowpour, 2013). Mortal
stores only offer sales to people who can physically see the store in that locality and therefore
limiting the number of customers.
