LAW ENFORCEMENT FUNCTION
When looking at the criminal justice models, there are only two main models: the
crime control and the due process model. The police can be able to exhibit different structures
and procedures under the crime control model than it would on the due process model. The
crime control model is able to reduce and prevent crimes by punishing offenders. One of the
structures that can be established under this model is by having strict and swift punishment
(Feeley, 2017). There are a number of ways that criminals can be punished. One of the
punishments can be imprisonment where the offenders can be retained for a given period of
time. The offender is separated from the society so that he/she can rectify his/her behavior.
Life in prison is always difficult and only a few people can survive there without any
problems. During that period, criminals are able to change and be good people once they get
released after their imprisonment period is over.
Another way that this model works is to ensure that the criminals are responsible for
their actions. This means that instead of being imprisoned, they are charged a certain amount
of money depending on their crimes. The crime control model is all about regulation of the
crimes and enhancing justice. When criminals are punished, it creates fear for the other
criminals who are not discovered by the police. The fear of being punished by the law is what
transforms some of the criminals and they become good people in the society.
