Description

Data Recovery Plan

In this assignment, you assume the role of an employee of the DigiFirm Investigation Company. The company has been asked to recover blueprint files from a hard disk that a disgruntled employee reformatted. The computer is an ordinary laptop that was running Windows, and no backup is available.

You can use a few built-in tools to recover deleted files from a Windows operating system (OS). However, there are also third-party tools that might be helpful. Before beginning any data recovery endeavor, it is a good idea to research your options and plan your approach.

Deliverable:

For this assignment, you are to:

  • Locate two third-party tools that will assist you in the data recovery. Write a professional report that includes a data recovery plan outline, listing the steps to be performed and the Windows and third-party tools to be used, in recovering the data in the order of importance.
  • Your report is required to be 4-5 pages in length. Your report must adhere to the Saudi Electronic University academic writing standards and APA style guidelines, citing references as appropriate.

Introduction
The modern world has been featured with wide loads of critical files and thus wide usage
of laptops, where companies have realized the need for data recovery practicalities. The most
extensively employed Office is the Microsoft word document, used by both professionals and
standard individuals. However, it is barely a fail-proof system, and users tend to delete
documents both intentionally and unintentionally. As an employee at the DigiFirm Investigation
Company, I have been asked to recover deleted data (blueprint files) from a laptop. When
dealing with laptops or desktops, Windows Operating Systems (OS) is dominance. Nevertheless,
the OS hardly guarantees that it could in anyway outrun potential risks of data loss. Companies
will always be at risk of losing specific data through events such as hardware failure, OS crash
among other events like deleting important files without a backup of files as in this case. The
following report covers an approach of the data recovery process and two third-party tools for
adequate recovery of the data.
Data Recover plan outline
Step 1: Researching more information on the type of storage medium impacted by data loss. In
this case, the data was in the hard drive of a laptop.
Step 2: Finding out the file systems in while the deleted files belonged. This involves the data
structures as well as the methods the OS employed in keeping track of the files on the disk.
Additionally, this includes how the file has been named and placed logically for not only storage
purposes but their retrieval. However, the file systems, however, tend to differ between the OS,
for instance, Linux based systems and Microsoft Windows. This also involves knowing...
