A living will as well as DNR contains instructions for one’s preferences in case he or she
has not been able to communicate while in the ER. It is such instructions that guide the doctors
and caregivers at the time the person is terminally ill like the case of Mary Dunn. Such directives
help one to get the medical care of her wishes and also prevent unnecessary suffering for the
