University of Maryland Global Week 6 Illustrating Religion and Myth Discussion
WEEK 6 DISCUSSION: Illustrating Religion and MythGENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCUSSIONS: Your contributions should be thoughtful and developed. Answer all parts of the question and use concepts from the course materials. Use a professional style of communication, with attention to grammar, spelling, and typos; cite your sources. Unless your instructor specifies otherwise, choose ONE of the following questions, and give a substantive response to at least two other students.1. THE MATERIAL DIMENSION OF MYTHIf you look at the Learning Resources for this week, you will see myths from religions paired with elements of the arts which express or are related to those myths. For example, the Jewish Passover myth is covered, and then there is a link to a Passover dance and some material decorative items used in the Jewish Passover ritual, which re-enacts the myth. Also, the Eucharistic myth is covered under Christianity, and then there are some examples of how the story of the Eucharist is expressed in the arts, including in music and poetry. For this discussion, pick one of the five major world religions. Find a myth from that religion that you can directly connect to something in the religion’s material dimension (the arts).Provide a link to a version of the myth and give us a very short (3-5 sentences) description of the myth.Provide a link to the element from the arts that links to the myth and give us a paragraph that analyzes how the two are connected. For example: Is this an object that is part of a ritual? Is it used by believers to accomplish something? Does it teach believers something? Does it help a community express their beliefs? Is it something (like a work of visual art) that critiques the values/beliefs/practices etc. expressed by the myth, or offers a new perspective on the religion?Keep in mind that according to the Encyclopedia Britannica online a myth is: a symbolic narrative, usually of unknown origin and at least partly traditional, that ostensibly relates actual events and that is especially associated with religious belief. It is distinguished from symbolic behaviour (cult, ritual) and symbolic places or objects (temples, icons). Myths are specific accounts of gods or superhuman beings involved in extraordinary events or circumstances in a time that is unspecified but which is understood as existing apart from ordinary human experience. The term mythology denotes both the study of myth and the body of myths belonging to a particular religious tradition. (https://www.britannica.com/topic/myth).2. THE ACADEMIC STUDY OF RELIGIONTo address the following questions, consider the four approaches to religion described in the introduction to this module: exclusivism, inclusivism, pluralism and empathetic interest in other people.Which of these four approaches do you take in your everyday life, and why?Describe a friend, acquaintance, or relative whose approach to religion is different than yours. What approach do they take? Given your different approaches, how would you communicate with them about religion? If you were to take a college class on religious traditions, do you think the academic study of religion might require you to adjust your approach? Explain your answer. You will not see any other postings until you post your own.Initial posts are due by Saturday, 28 Nov 2020 at 11:30PM ET. Two responses to fellow classmates are required by the end of the academic week on Tuesday, 1 Dec 2020 by 11:30PM ET. A response to the Professor's follow-on question(s) is required.

Purdue University Global Business Management Process Journal Discussion
Assignment DetailsComplete this week’s Learning Activity to prepare for the assignment. For this assignment, you are an invited lecturer for the Applied Behavior Analysis I undergraduate course at Purdue Global University. You have been asked to speak to beginning applied behavior analysis (ABA) students in their first seminar of their ABA program. You want to engender an appreciation for the field of behavior analysis and a passion for the science. Consider what you should talk about that can introduce the basic concepts of the science and spark the students’ passion for the field.Design a narrated Power Point® presentation for this assignment in which you transcribe your narration in the “Notes” section of each slide. Remember, you want to use the “language of the behavior analyst,” but you must be mindful of the students’ lack of experience. This will require you to explain the concepts in terms the students can understand.Create a 10-12 slide narrated PowerPoint Presentation to include the following:Define the following and explain how these are used to either maintain behavior, diminish behavior, or extinguish behavior:Positive and Negative ReinforcementPositive and Negative PunishmentExplain the difference between Negative Reinforcement and Punishment. Provide two brief scenarios that illustrate those differences.ExtinctionExplain the importance of identifying behavior function to the design of effective, function-based behavior intervention plans.Explain the following four functions of behavior:Social Positive ReinforcementTangible Positive ReinforcementSocial Negative ReinforcementAutomatic ReinforcementDiscuss the purpose and the process of the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). Include Indirect Assessment and Direct Descriptive Assessment in your discussion.Explain the characteristics of an operational definition of a target behavior. Illustrate the difference between a label of a target behavior and an operational definition of a target behavior.Discuss the questions you must ask yourself when determining the social significance of a potential target behavior.Present the criteria for prioritizing target behaviors.Use the following scenario to answer the questions that follow:Lonnie is a 5-year-old little boy who loves playing with his dog, Scruffy, and his little sister, Tammy. Recently, the young family has endured much upheaval. Lonnie’s dad just left one night while he was asleep and, about a month later, his mom decided they needed to move closer to Lonnie’s grandparents. Lonnie’s mom recently enrolled him in a new kindergarten. During the little family’s transition to their new home, Lonnie and his mom were inseparable. He stayed close to her in case she needed him. He saw his mama cry one night and that made him sad. Since beginning his new school 5-weeks ago, Lonnie has been at the nurse’s office 10-times. The nurse’s records reveal that Lonnie always arrives about 30-minutes after his mom drops him off. The nurse phones his mom and she immediately picks him up and takes him home. His mom has taken him to the doctor, but there seems to be nothing physically wrong. What is the target behavior in the case? Operationally define the target behavior.Identify the antecedent and consequence in this case.Based upon the usual antecedent and consequence, hypothesize the probable function of Lonnie’s target behavior.Using the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts, Code 3.0, discuss the ethical guidelines governing behavior intervention plans (BIPs).Directions: Your PowerPoint Presentation should incorporate narration, as indicated, and be between 10-12 slides in length, not including the title and reference slides. You should apply APA Style formatting throughout your presentation as applicable. You should use only the sources contained in the course for this assignment.Save your PowerPoint using Lastname underscore first name course #, unit#, assignment title Smith_Amy PSXXXAssignment.
