The slope is the change in y divided by the change in x. So subtract the y in the second point from the y in the first point and do the same with x.

(-6 - 4) / (-8 - 1)  =  -10 / -9

You can drop the negative signs since there is one on both the top and bottom.  So the slope (m) is 10/9
