Emotional intelligence can help a leader to manage situations encountered in the course
of dealing with people from different backgrounds and walks of life more effectively. Bratton,
Dodd & Brown (2011) define emotional intelligence as an array of interrelated non-cognitive
skills, capabilities, and competencies that influence an individual's ability to cope and respond to
routine demands and pressures. Emotional intelligence in leadership is imperative. The traits
associated with emotional intelligence can help a leader to analyze issues critically without being
clouded by emotions and, consequently, forge ahead with plans without worrying that these
might affect their egos.
Emotional intelligence in leadership allows the leader to leverage emotions of their own
