Should Marijuana be Legal for Recreational Use?
Marijuana use among teenagers is on the rise, and the drug is mostly utilized for the
recreational purpose. In the US, Washington, DC recently legalized Marijuana. Therefore,
nearby states like Colorado and Michigan have chosen to legalize Marijuana other than
prohibiting the drug. History of drug laws by racists influences the legalization of Marijuana in
the United States and the debate on legalizing the drug never ends among US states
(Feng, 2017). Statistics reveal that at least twenty million Americans abuse Marijuana every year
and most of them are young adults. As early as high school stage, some teenagers in the US
abuse Marijuana claiming it is the best recreational drug. It was in China that Marijuana was first
used as medicine, and some states support its legalization for medical benefits. In the paper, there
will be two arguments, one supporting legalization of Marijuana and the other prohibiting the use
of the drug. I support the legalization of Cannabis for it is a recreational drug.
I support legalizing of Marijuana. Marijuana should be legalized for its recreational
benefits. In states like Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, and many other US
states, legalizing Marijuana has improved public health, and benefits the economy because
expenditure allocated to the criminal justice system to fight Marijuana abusers is now used in
improving states' infrastructure. Adults above twenty-one years are free to use Marijuana while
in designated regions for recreational purpose. However, they should not expose the drug to
teenagers. Public support in America needs law reforms that will legalize Marijuana. Many
politicians and health officers have addressed the issue of legalizing Marijuana, and this has
pushed the Drug Policy Alliance to exclude cases of Marijuana abuse from the crimina...
