To obtain such a vector we have to divide the original vector by its length:

a/|a| has the same dimension as a and length 1.

The length can be found by the Pythagorean theorem as sqrt(b^2 + c^2 + d^2) where b, c, d are coefficients of i, j and k. Here it is

sqrt(5^2 + (-1)^2 + 4^2) = sqrt(25 + 1 + 16) = sqrt(42).

The answer: u = (5/sqrt(42))*i - (1/sqrt(42))*j + (4/sqrt(42))*k.

( also we can rewrite 1/sqrt(42) as sqrt(42)/42 )
