Human Resources, Workplace Communication, and Sexual Harassment

The human resource is an important production factor. Can companies run without labor?
No, there is a need to have individuals committed to the provision of goods and services. Over
time, it has changed. Several factors are shaping the way human resource is acquired and
employed in different work environments. Considering that the way operations are done in the
industries are changing, the skills which people need to work are also changing. Organizational
culture is also changing. Due to these changes, several issues surround the human resource sector
(Buckley, Halbesleben & Wheeler, 2014). For instance, how is workplace communication
handled in your environment? Are there cases of employee harassment, for instance, sexual
harassment? These are things which happen daily in the work environment and it is crucial to
study such.

Effective and Proper Workplace Communication

A successful human resource team is one in which the flow of information from one level
to the next is free. It is normal for conflicts to arise in the work environment. The big question
will always be, how do these conflicts get solved? The ability to solve conflicts successfully
depends on the way employees communicate with each other. There are several factors which
are behind an effective and proper workplace communication (Gutierez, 2017). These factors
include language, clarity, feedback, simplicity, the relationship between the communicating
parties, and the commanding attention.

Workplace communication flow
Language is an important tool of communication. Without language, communication
ceases to exist. This factor can be approached from different approaches. To begin with, we can
start by looking at the use of different languages (people from different nationalities that use
varied languages, for instance, a Chinese and a Hispania). Without a common language to pass
messages, employees from these nationalities will not arrive at a decision easily. There will be
misunderstandings each time. In most cases, conflicts have risen due to these. Lack of a common
language in the workplace reduces the efficiency of the human resource since it becomes
impossible to set a common goal. Human resource entails working in teams. Therefore, there is a
strong need to have a binding language just like in a soccer team. Can you imagine how difficult
it is for the players to communicate in the soccer pitch if they come from different nationalities?
There will be a lot of miscommunication that can eventually lead to defeat.

The second part of language is to analyze the tone and diction. Diction refers to the
choice of words which an individual chooses to use in presenting a given message. For example,
is it a difficult statement that needs interpretation? Look at a scenario in the courtroom where a
judge meets with employees at a lower level, for instance, the cleaners and start communicating
to them using some law clauses which they do not understand. The essence of communication is

to bring unity in the human resource sector but with the wrong administering of language choice,
its unity is broken affecting the effectiveness of the human resource. For this reason, you will
find employees trying to avoid certain individuals since they cannot understand them properly.

What is the relationship between the communicating parties? Is it a boss-employee
communication or peer-to-peer communication? The relationship affects communication in
many ways. When peer-to-peer communication takes place, most of the time the conversation is
relaxed and there is so much sharing? (McIntosh et al., 2008). This i...
