To prepare for this Assignment:

Review Chapter 10 in Bryson (2018).

Consider the relationships between the Strategy Change Cycle and the strategic management system.

Introduction

The formulation, adoption, and implementation of strategies alone are not enough to
ensure success to guarantee success or the creation of public value (Bryson, 2018). Continuous
management of strategy implementation is crucial to success. A strategy management system
(SMS) is a continuous arrangement or organizational design that is geared towards the strategic
management of adopted strategies (Bryson, 2018). Adopted strategies need to be monitored and
evaluated continuously to make sure that they are useful in dealing with the issue of concern. If
such strategies are not effective, there will be a need to adjust the strategies or terminate their
implementation. An SMS makes the assessment of strategy implementation easier. The RMP is
aimed at maximizing the creation of public value. The strategies that will be adopted will need
continuous monitoring to make sure that they aid in the maximization of public value. An
effective SMS will be vital in assessing the implementation of the agreed-upon strategies.
The Strategic Issues Management Approach
There are six fundamental SMS approaches that an organization can adopt to assess
strategy implementation (Bryson, 2018). A combination of the different approaches is also
common in SMS. A method that will be effective for the town of Masachapa’s Revitalizing
Masachapa Project (RMP) is the strategic issue management approach. The particular approach
involves the assessment of whether adopted strategies are useful in the handling of the strategic
