One benefit implication of power differential in families is that it ensures the normal
functioning of family dynamics. Due to the clearly defined role in the family settings as a result
of power differentials, each person in the dyadic family settings is aware of the various roles,
expectations, and responsibilities (Dunbar, 2017). As a result, power differentials ensure the
seamless flow of activities at the family level since there is minimal role conflict or overlap of
roles among the family members. One risk of power differential at the family level is that it
facilitates the mistreatment of certain family members due to its strict adherence to gender roles
and norms which could facilitate gender discrimination. Due to clearly defined roles, some
family members become overly burdened with familial tasks while others put minimal effort.
