The success of a restaurant is dependent on its management since proper management
means success for the restaurant. This means that restaurant managers have to do their jobs
appropriately so that the restaurant can be successful. In the course of their jobs, restaurant
managers are faced with various challenges that they need to address to ensure the smooth
running of the restaurant operations.
Challenges in Managing a Restaurant
There are various challenges that restaurant managers face in their operations and duties
and these include health department regulations, competition from other restaurants and
customer satisfaction and retention. Restaurants are regulated by the state and local governments
in which they provide the rules and regulations that guide the running of a restaurant (Thompson,
2010). For a restaurant to be licensed, it has to be up to the standards required for such an entity
by the local government. Also, restaurants need to renew their licenses in which inspections are
conducted to ensure that the restaurant has maintained the standards that the state government
requires.
The food industry has many players, and this makes the competition in the industry to be
high. Players in the industry have to come up with ways in which to attract more customers.
Restaurants are in high numbers, and this requires that the hotel manager to device ways in
which to make his or her restaurant the most attractive to customers so that the restaurant can
