Politics

Question 1
This question seeks to understand why Aristotle is considered the “father of political
science” as well as why he called politics the “master of science”. Aristotle made enormous
contributions to politics and political philosophy even more than his teacher, Plato who is
considered as the father of Political Philosophy (Roscoe & Isle, 2015). He is said to have made
eight major contributions to this effect, first, he devised the comparative method as an approach
to politics by studying 158 constitutions and made his own conclusions which are considered
relevant to date. Second, he gave meaning to the primacy of law by defining and using the
concept of rule of law as well as the constitutional state to define governance. Third, he
developed the theory of the origin of the state where he argued that man is a “political animal”
which is true acclaim. Other contributions that gave him this title include, he defined the positive
functions of the state and how it should conduct itself, theories which are implemented in
constitutions of most states around the world (Roscoe & Isle, 2015). He also made contributions
to conservative thinking by favoring the retention of existing institutions which has majorly
influenced the conservatives. He also defined the middle class as well as is political issues in the
contemporary period, facts which can be seen in the current political trends in almost every state.
Additionally, he is known to use his scientific methods to define the autonomy of politics by
analyzing various political issues. All these concepts are applicable in almost every political state
which gives credibility to the findings and conclusions he made about politics (Roscoe & Isle,
2015). Therefore, Aristotle made huge contributions which made him branded as the father of
political science. He referred to politics as a “master science” because he felt that politics defined
the environment in which man every individual organizes their life. He felt that all branches of
human activity depended on politics and it gives meaning to a stronger understanding of the
society as well as the world. He argued that no one can escape the parameters of politics because
it defines the design made on issues such as healthcare, taxes, education and other activities.
Question 1b
According to Smith, (et.al, 2017), science is the intellectual, practical and systematic
study of nature, behavior, physical forms through observation and experiments to provide proper
applicable and justifiable conclusions. Yes, it is true that as messy as politics is, it can be
considered a science. Political science is a science that strives to understand how and why
humans make certain decisions, studies their behavior and what leads them to take certain
political actions which relate to their environment. Most political behaviors and actions can be
studied through experimentation and observation which helps in defining the political nature of
man.
Question 1c
Power is the ability of an individual to influence another individual’s abilities to act,
think, conduct, or d...
