Atelectasis is a Greek work derived from ateles and ektasis which
mean incomplete expansion.

The condition is defined as diminishing volume of air that affect the
lungs
❖
Almost half of respiratory challenges patients suffer from atelectasis

Atelectasis is divided into obstructive and nonobstructive
depending on the causing agents.

Atelectasis is a condition of lung closure that leads to the reduction
or absence of gas exchange in the human respiratory system.

The lungs airways called the alveoli are unable to fill air

The exchange of carbon dioxide with oxygen therefore becomes
difficult

If the lungs do not receive enough oxygen, then is the rest of the
body and might lead to lung collapse or failure

ranging from small portions to the entire lung
