Personal networks are regarded to be equivalent to a person's net worth. Ivan Misner, regarded as
the father of business networking founded on the belief that people do businesses with the people
they know. The networking assignment could not have come a better time. I decided to talk to
strangers instead of my classmates to gain a greater insight into the process and also to help me
develop self-confidence.
Nick Nantes is a Cuban-American whose grandparents immigrated to American in the early
fifties. The meeting took place over lunch. Nantes is the second generation Cubans in America.
Nantes loves fishing which he learned from his parents, who fish as a way of relaxation. Nantes
has three years of fishing experience. He has a girlfriend from California. What is interesting is
that fishing sports are a real recreation activity where all the fish returned to the lake or river.
The fishing expeditions are both local and international. Deep sea fishing according to Nantes is
exciting though dangerous. Nantes has an extensive network of fishing enthusiasts and fishing
sports lovers in the world. Nantes invited me for the next fishing expedition. We exchanged
contacts.
