Calculate the fluid velocity in ft/sec to 2 decimal places. The formula for the velocity is given by:

velocity =Flow rate / Pipe Area

The flow rate = 29 gpm

and the Pipe Area is calculated from its diameter of 4 inches,

231 cubic inches = 1 gallon,

12 inches = 1 ft, and

60 sec = 1 minute

= 29 gpm / π *( diameter / 2)^2

= 111.65 cubic inches per second /  π * 4 inches square

= 8. 88482  inches per second

= 106.61789 ft per second

= 106.62 ft per second

106.62   ft/sec

= 0.740402 ft per second                     (12 inches = 1 ft)

= 0.74  ft per second
