Permeability across the cell membrane is depended on the size and electrical charge of the particles.The membrane is highly permeable to fat soluble molecules unlike the polar ones. The permeability to charged molecular species (ions) is very
low because of electrical charge . Therefore passage of ions is assisted by the
presence of specific membrane transport proteins.
