The 1st step in solving a word problem is to break it up into pieces.
First piece: 3/2's of the difference of a number and two.
Second piece:one more than twice the same number.
Now what are we looking for? A number, call it x. The first piece can now be written as (3/2) * (x - 2), assuming x is bigger than 2.
The second piece can be written as 1 + 2x.
How are the two pieces related? By the word "is", which I translate as "equals".
We now have the equation (3/2) * (x - 2) = 1 + 2x. I assume you can solve this equation: that is, find the value of x that makes the left side equal to the right side. If not, post the equation on studypool and I or someone else can show you how.
