Question Description

HR Performance Issues and Motivation

The relationship between the organization and its members can be greatly influenced by what motivates individuals to work. The style of leadership, job design, resources on the job, and environment can all have a significant effect on the satisfaction of employees and their performance. Performance is also influenced by individual motivations (e.g., social, recognition, financial reward, personal growth and development, and/or intrinsic satisfaction) and can equally impact the organization. There are many theories that attempt to explain the nature of motivation. Write a four- to five-page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) evaluating the relationship between motivation, job satisfaction, and work performance. Be sure to address the following:

  1. Describe a performance issue which resulted from a motivational problem (what, why, who).
  2. Use a content theory of motivation (e.g., Maslow, Alderfer, Herzberg, or McClelland) or a process theory (i.e., Adams, Locke, or Heider and Kelley) to explain how the issue creates a performance problem for the organization.
  3. Use the theory of motivation you selected to describe an intervention/action to change the motivation/behavior and correct the performance problem.

Your paper must use a minimum of three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook. Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

HR Performance Issues and Motivation
Motivational issues in organizations can come from either the management or the employees at
the ground level. There are many performance issues in an organization that come from motivational
problems; one of the many issues in the performance that arise from motivational issues is lack of
employee pay or rewards. In any organization especially the profit-making organization, employees work
with the expectation that they will be rewarded for their hard work. The Human Resource department is
responsible for employees’ performance, and in order to motivate employees, every achievement should
be recognized and rewarded, and the employees’ welfare should be considered.
In an organization where there is lack of appropriate reward system that entails selling bonus as
well as monthly special recognition, there is a likelihood of a motivational problem where employees feel
that they are not acknowledged despite putting extra efforts in their daily activities in an organization.
There is also a likelihood of a performance issue in the case where an employee feels that the payment
that they receive at the end of the month is below what they are supposed to be offered in regard to the
services or output they offer to the organization, most employees may decide to use the industry average
in determining whether or not the payments that they receive from an organization is below what they are
supposed to be paid (Baack, 2017). It is likely that an employee who feels underpaid will not be
motivated in giving extra effort and therefore reducing their performance in the organization.
Discouraged employees will often endeavor to provide the least output in their daily activities in
an organization and will only offer what they feel they are being prayed for, this implies that the worker’s
performance will be way below what they are capable of offering in an organization and this comes as a
result of lack of proper reward and payment by an organization, therefore, reducing a motivation in these
employees. In instances where payment is delayed or not given out effectively, there is a likelihood of a
performance issue in these employees. In most organizations salary payments should be paid at the very
end of a month or the very beginning of the month, in instances where organizations delay payment for

employees or have irregular schedules of payment, there will be low motivation in the employees as they
feel unappreciated for the performance that they offer to the organization leading to lower performing
face in these employees (Greene, 2018).
The motivational issue can be assessed through the utilization of Abraham Maslow's theory of
motivation. Abraham Maslow, a psychologist, came up with a theory and named it the hierarchy of needs
theory; in this theory, he stated that human beings have the motivation to satisfy f...
