Humor and Comedy

The countless challenges that face human beings in their daily lives can best be quenched
through relaxation and laughter, and that is why humor and comedy came into being. They are
forms of entertainment that seek to help us get through stressful situations, awkward or difficult
events. Humor is meant to elicit laughter, however, but the flipside of humor can be hostile,
aggressive, antagonistic, when it displays a sense of superiority. Comedy, on the other hand,
involves entertainment with humorous jokes that are intended to make the audience to laugh.
Comedy narrative always has a happy ending (Berger, 2017). In the current times, there are
various forms of comedy, ranging from sketch comedy such as sitcoms, the witty comedy which
is based on wordplay and jokes, and insult comedy which is meant to be mean. Humor and

the Charlie Chaplin character comedy transcended audiences in Europe and the United States for
years during the silent film error. These are classical examples of how humor can bring about
global sensations and cult followings, and this often ends up influencing many people from
diverse backgrounds. However, it should be noted that humor in the current times comes with a
national sense, and thus some jokes around the world are synonymous with particular cultures
and will not be interesting if they are used in other cultures (News.psu, 2012). For instance,
