Views on the quality of health care are seen as an all-embracing umbrella which the
safety of the patient resides on. Early philosophers like Plato considered health and its attributes

ideal equilibrium between opportunities appreciated and an outline of values and norms.
Workgroups, from the Institute of medicine, attempts to define health care quality in terms of the
standards (Shanafelt, Dyrbye, Sinsky, Hasan, Satele, Sloan & West, 2016). In the beginning, it
defined the quality of health care as a point to which health services for a population and
individual’s increases with the probability of desired health outcome. Patient safety appeared

Safety involves lack of harm to the patient while quality involves effective, efficient and

how well the service is provided. With safety, it is less likely for a mistake to happen while with
quality, it increases the upper limit so that care experienced is of better standards.
