Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) Care
Therapeutic patient care focuses on changing the health of a patient over time through
offering education to family members and patients on how to manage various patient conditions.
While many sources may tend to consider therapeutic care to be direct, it should be noted that
there is little interaction between patients and physicians, in the real execution of the procedures,
and therefore it is rightfully semi-direct. Therapeutic patient education enables families or
patients to prevent avoidable complications while improving the quality of life. The patient
education is performed in the care transitions nursing environments, for example, patient
transitions from the hospital to the home environment or a rehabilitation center (Vargas-Schaffer,
2014). However, TPE has various problems barring its efficiency like difficulty in evaluating the
personal role of educators, limited accessibility of the TPE care to patients and limited methods
of overcoming the barriers to therapeutic patient education care.
The problems to the TPE care can be approached through various change theories in the
nursing practice. For instance, the implementation of TPE care in nursing practice can be
