I am having difficulty with an essay (5-7 pages to be exact i need 6 pages) for Introduction to literature. I have gathered some material but cannot seem to put it together. Attached find 1 handout on children's literature, 1 set of instructions, what I started gathering. The Only one thing I did not send is a book "I Was a Rat". (please find it online) You need to read it since its part of the paper and also put it in reference page. The book isn't long. Fast readers can get it done in 1hr. I hate reading so it took me 3. Introduction
Literature may be defined as being any material especially of written work that is artistic
and is deemed to have a specific value. The method used in these types of works deploys a
language in a manner that is different from ordinary usage. The works include texts that are
either written or spoken as a non-formal form. However, technological improvements have been
witnessed in that there exist developments in print technology that has resulted in the growth of
electronic literature. Numerous classifications of literature exist in that the work may either be
fictional or non-fictional. It may also be in poetry or prose form. Other forms include novels,
drama, short story and those that are categorized according to their historical periods (Ling, 2017
pg 119). In this text, we shall discuss in depth the traditional forms folklore and mythology as
used in the novel “I was a rat” by Philip Pullman. Additionally, we shall seek to explain why
particular forms were employed as opposed to others and why the book is highly recommended
to children.

Before settling in north Wales, Philip Pullman, the author of the novel “I was a rat”, lived
in England and later Australia and Zimbabwe. He was born in the year 1946 and studied to
complete his secondary education at the Ysgol Ardudwy. He later pursued a degree in English
which formed the basis for his writing career (Nikolajeva, 2018 pg.10). Some of his famous
novels include “the ruby in the smoke”, “the subtle knife” and “I was a rat” that he wrote in the
year 1999.
Plot
In the novel, the author narrates a scenario where old bob the cobbler is at home with his
wife Joan and they suddenly hear a knock from the door. Upon opening, there were met by a
small boy who was clothed in a stained page’s uniform. When asked who he was, the boy replied
by uttering the words “I was a rat.” Since the couple did not have a child, they decided to take
