Introduction
Trigeminal nerve refers to the nerve which is responsible for the face sensation as well as
motor functions. The trigeminal nerve is the biggest among the cranial nerves. In this essay, the
following will be discussed in detail: Trigeminal nerve functions, the trigeminal nerve condition
as well as trigeminal nerve treatment.
Functions of the trigeminal nerve
Trigeminal nerve consists of three big branches which include: (V1 sensory) ophthalmic,
(V2 sensory) maxillary as well as (V3 sensory) mandibular. The function of sensing for trigeminal
nerve provides proprioceptive, tactile as well as nociceptive afference on the face and in the mouth.
The trigeminal nerve’s motor function activates mastication muscles, tensor veli palatine, tensor
tympani, mylohyoid as well as anterior belly for the digastric. The large sensory root as well as
the motor root that is small leave brainstem in pons' mid-lateral surface. The sensory root ends at
the cranial nerve's largest nuclei that protrude out of pons up to the 2nd level of the cervical spinal
cord. A sensory root attaches to the trigeminal as well as semilunar ganglion in the layers of Dura
mater at depression in the middle cranial fossa's floor.
Motor root comes out of cells situa...
