A rental car agency charges \$26.00 per day and 25 cents per mile.

(a) Calculate the rental charge if you rent a car for 4 days and drive 300 miles. (Round your answer to the nearest cent.)

(b) Use a formula to express the cost of renting a car as a function of the number of days you keep it and the number of miles you drive. (Let d be the number of days you rent the car, m the number of miles you drive the car, and C the cost in dollars of renting the car.)

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

(a) Total rental charge= rent due to rent duration(in days)+rent due to miles covered

=\$26 x 4+\$(1/4) x 300=\$179

where charges per day is \$26.00  and charges  per mile is 25 cent or \$1/4 .

(b) Formula which can be used to express the cost of renting a car is calculated as follows:

As the rate is \$26 per day and 25 cents or \$(1/4) per mile, the total cost of renting a car for d number of days and travelling m number of miles is calculated as:

C(d, m )=\$26.00 x d+ \$(1/4)x m

=26 d+0.25 m

=1/4(104 d+m )

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
