There are various forms of positive punishment ranging from telling a student "NO" to electric shock.  Explain why positive punishment is different than extinction or negative punishment by using examples to make your case.

Positive punishment is a kind of punishment whereby a negative consequence is put in place as a reward for certain undesirable behaviour. Taking an example of a dog, if one treated its dog very nicely after it sat down then the dog adopts sitting down so as to attract the reward. Negative punishment on the other hand involves the withdrawal of a desired stimulus as a result of undesired behaviour. An example of this could be not buying an earlier promised toy after a child misses class. Extinction is done by introducing a stimulus that leads to the desired behaviour. for example giving a child a gift to encourage him to do well in class.
