The practice of human trafficking has been very problematic to deal with over the years. Criminals who involve themselves in the vice think of it as a very lucrative business hence it becomes impossible for them to stop it. The issue has recently received vast amounts of renewed attention from different human rights groups. Concerning the approach which was undertaken during the 2010 Olympics, some organizations like the Vancouver community debated whether human trafficking would increase or effectively reduce due to the increased discussion on the matter (Wheaton et al., 2010). It is very vital for governments to undertake punitive measures against individuals who may have the idea of practicing human trafficking at any level however small. With this issue of human trafficking being broad and complex, the focus of this paper will limit its discussion to the best understanding in which governments and relevant authorities can merely terminate human trafficking. In Vancouver and Canada for instance, the trafficking of persons especially women and small girls has been observed as a problem which has continued over time. The report on human trafficking stated that the two countries have acted as transit, source and destination countries for criminals who have been carrying out trafficking activities. Many of the aboriginal girls and women in Canada are mostly trafficked domestically mainly for sexual exploitation. Other countries like Malaysia, China, Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines use Vancouver as their primary route to the activities of sexual exploitation. Keeping these facts in mind which were provided by the US State Department, it is correct to state for instance, if the Canadian government could call for immediate military response to deal with those individuals who practice human trafficking through checking their communication systems and other channels of movement to effectively find the criminals and stop them (Gozdiak, 2011). The governments in 3 these transit countries are in the best-placed positions to stop the vice since the crackdown would cripple the individuals who undertake the activities. During the Olympic Games human rights organizations have always pointed out that human trafficking increases and in particular sex trafficking go on the rise. It has been proven that the international sporting events are in right positions to put up measures in which the issue of human trafficking can be looked into properly. They can stop the process of allowing people who are trafficked into these countries illegally by establishing thorough checks and the validity of their documents. In relation to these events, it has been found that women are the individuals who are in the biggest danger. For this matter, it is easy to identify the culprits and punish them. After rescuing the victims, they are in an excellent position to explain to the authorities about the routes and ways the perpetrators use to carry out the activities of human trafficking. This option should, however, be optional for the victims (Weitzer, 2014). Some governments have had some level of modest success towards curbing the vice. The governments have managed to secure convictions through active investigations which have enabled them to obtain justice for the victims. Canada has also secured some convictions, and in addition to this, they have managed to find out some of the residences of the criminals who practice human trafficking. The Canadian immigration sector has also set up rules for immigrants in which measures have been taken to protect victims who may be in the process of being trafficked. These efforts have considerably reduced human trafficking issues to some extent (Todres, 2011). On the flip side, some individuals may have the opposing view that governments do not have the sole role of curbing human trafficking. This may be true to some level, but the argument does not hold water. Individual support towards stopping the activities of human trafficking 4 could help to stop the criminals in some way (Gallagher, 2010). The individual, on the other hand, does not have the actual security and financial support to work towards terminating the vice effectively. The argument is therefore not valuable since governments have the most influential power to stop the most dangerous criminals at all costs. When a government decides to crack down on criminals no one else wins but the authority of the government. The governments are also able to train personnel on how to deal with the issue of human trafficking including more efforts in encouraging teachers to emphasize teaching about the effects of the practice in their coursework (Todres, 2011). This process would effectively provide adequate training to the victims and their families hence there would be no repeated cases of human trafficking. In conclusion, it should be noted that it is not a requirement for the victims of human trafficking to help authorities in the process of investigating the traffickers. The legislation states that it is legal for organizations to work with the victims in the best way possible to come up with trafficking reports which can help the government to curb the vice. Moreover, for the trafficking activities to be entirely stopped, it is proper for individuals to act as informers of the government in helping to track human trafficking events. This would easily enable authorities to terminate the process. Therefore, for human trafficking to be stopped, there should be a collective effort in the process of stopping the criminals from undertaking the inhuman activities. 5 References Gallagher, A. T.
