Solve the equation by extracting the square roots. When a solution is irrational, list both the exact solution and its approximation rounded to two decimal places.

(x + 2)2 = 13

(small value) x=       approx=

(larger value) x=       approx=

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

(x+2)^2=13

taking the squareroot on both sides give the two solutions below

(x+2)=+squareroot(13)   (i)

(x+2)=-squareroot(13)   (ii)

small value of x is found by solving (ii)

x+2=-squareroot(13)

x=-squareroot(13)-2, (approx=-5.61)

Large value of x is found by solving (i)

x+2=squareroot(13)

x=squareroot(13)-2, (approx=1.61)
