Question 1
The populist and progressive occurred during the outbreak of the workers union after the
American civil war. These movements had a myriad of differences, yet they have several
aspects, which are common. For instance, both groups worked hard in efforts to resolve several
social, political, as well as economic issues occurring in America. Each group had different
approaches to what was important and methods of addressing problems. However, despite these
groups appearing to fight different problems in the society, the progressive movement seemed to
be more successful compared to the populist movement.
In particular, farmers united in efforts to protect their interests, going to an extent of
creating a major political party. This party was referred to as the peoples party, which later came
to be known as the Populist Party. The progressive movement had its roots in different earlier
groups, including the Liberal Republican. Progressives centered in towns and were largely
middle class people, who were more educated than the populists, majority of whom were
uneducated and low-class farmers. Besides, progressives in the political mainstream, and while
