cognitive theory and environmentalist theory. These theories explain the concept of child
development based on biological, cognitive and environmental differences.
Biological differences
This is covered by the Maturitionist theory which promotes the idea that child development is a
function of a series of biological processes which not only affects the growth process but also a
child’s school readiness.
Cognitive differences
This is covered by Piaget’s cognitive development theory which is divided into the stages;
