Step 1: Notice that there are not any common coefficient, so let's multiply the second equation by -1

-1(-x+8y=47)

x-8y=-47

Step 2: Subtract the two equations

x+7y=58

x-8y=47

x-x=0

7y-(-8y)=15y

58-(-47)=58+47=105

15y=105

y= 7

Step 2: Substitute y=7 into the first equation to solve for x
x+7y=58
x+(7)(7)=58
x+49=58  (subtract by 49 to both side)
x=9

9+7(7)=58 check!
-9+8(7)= 47 check!
